The Lights go out on year 12!
The 6th Form Football team took to the pitch for another home match against Fallibroome Academy. The squad were in buoyant mood after their 2-1 victory last week and with the addition of Tom Ratican this proved only to increase confidence further for what should be a great game.
The game kicked off with HG sixth form in all black and Fallibroome in green. HG started off well controlling the early moments of the match and stringing together some nice sequences of passing and then just over the 5 minute mark….GOAL!!! After winning the ball back, a couple of nice early passes resulted in Tom Ratican receiving that ball in Fallibroomes final third, who the slipped a lovely pass into the patch of George Hardmans run and with composure and lovely footwork he rounded the keeper and slotted home. 1-0 up!
As the game progressed Fallibroome began to find their feet and control the match with nice early passes and kept the ball shifting from one side of the pitch to another. Hazel Grove rode their luck on a couple of occasions from set pieces then ironically against the run of play it was HG who nearly took at 2-0 lead after a fantastic through ball once again with Tom Ratican lifting the ball over the keeper BUT unfortunately over the crossbar as well.
After mounting pressure and the opposition midfielder not being closed down…whamo a thunderbolt from 25 yards out which flew into Shea Crawfords top left corner taking us to 1-1 The game stayed all square as the half drew to an end and it was all to play for. It was at this point the flood lights were meant to spring into action…they didn’t. After consulting the referee we agreed to play 5 minutes while technicians tried to get the lights on. During this time Fali-broome scored two quick second half goals to take a 3-1 lead. Then a ray of light the floodlights sprang into action but this was short lived flicking off two minutes later. After consultation from the Ref-eree and both benches the game was called off due to bad light. Did this save us from a beating or prevent a fantastic comeback from the lads?
