Introduction to Teaching
Do you have an interest in teaching in the future?
If so, then you will have a unique and exciting opportunity to participate in our Introduction to Teaching Programme at Hazel Grove High Sixth Form.
The programme will run across year 12 and 13 and combines a series of lectures, guest speakers, work experience and the opportunity to shadow teachers in both a secondary and primary school setting. The programme will give you a unique insight into the world of education and teaching.
The experience you will gain as being part of the programme will provide you with skills and knowledge that will be invaluable when applying for universities or employment and in particular it will give you a head start when looking at training to become a teacher.
The programme will focus on the following elements during the two years:
- Introduction to teaching and education
- What is good teaching
- Learning theories – How students learn
- Planning a lesson
- Marking and Assessment
- Behaviour Management
- Learners with Special Educational Needs (SEN)
In addition to these topics you will shadow and support teachers in both the secondary school and one of our feeder primary schools. You will be coached by professional mentors during the course to increase your confidence and you will have the opportunity towards the end of the course to deliver a lesson to a year 7 secondary or a primary school class and receive professional feedback on your lesson.
All these elements will be supported by online resources and you will build up a portfolio of evidence and references to use for future applications.
